the big announcement

June 27, 2014

The time has finally come to announce what I have been pouring myself into for the past few months.

I am days away from launching a submission blog and quarterly print publication brand that will feature beautifully moving,  fine art motherhood portraiture.

Over the past year in particular, as I grew deeper in my craft and my love for photographing families, I longed to see a distinguished place of publication and community for the portrait industry. As motherhood has become my personal muse, it is my desire to bring this beautiful niche to the forefront.

Inspired by The Black Tie Bride, and set into motion by the catalyst of the Making Things Happen conference– I could not be more thrilled to share a glimpse into what will be launching this coming Monday, June 30th.

Introducing…TheFountCollective_finalogo_uppercase

I have a soft spot for deep, meaningful portraiture. It makes my heart explode, and I wanted to create a place where such moving portrait work could be celebrated and honored. A place where photographers who devote their craft to capturing motherhood in all its forms would be seen as the artists they truly are. It is my vision that this will be an esteemed place of publication to work towards as a portrait photographer.

This will not be a typical Mommy and baby blog featuring all the must have products or DIY nursery decor. We already have those. This will be a blog that celebrates and honors the niche of photographers who devote themselves to photographing the irreplaceable role of mothers through fine art maternity, birth, newborn, and family portraiture.

In print we will not just be another magazine. It will be printed on the highest quality art paper and completely focused on the artists and their portrait work- a quarterly print publication that you will want to collect and have on your coffee table. A publication featuring the photographer’s art in a fine art album layout and design.

I also wanted to create a community of portrait artists who cling to the detailed, tangible portrait experience. In a digital age that is moving faster than I can often keep up with, I find myself reaching for the things I can hold onto. I find a deeper appreciation and value in the things I run my fingers over, and know that I can one day pass it along to someone else who will hold it as carefully as I.

Fount is devoted to the art of presentation, and is thrilled to be working with select artisans who make this possible. We plan to post new content every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the first month or so, and as we build our audience and submissions we hope to transition into being a 5 days a week blog.

There is SO much more that I cannot wait to share. You will see some of these things introduced on the website Monday, and much more in the months to come. I am past elated at the result of such hard work, and dreaming bigger than ever before.

The days leading up to our launch are filled with fantastic giveaways, starting today! We need your help in spreading the word about Fount, and we would love if you could share this post today.

Giveaway Day 1

G R A T I T U D E   T O . . .

A huge thank you to our incredible designer Kara Layne & Co. I have had the honor of working with a few amazingly talented designers for my own photography brand over the past couple years, and reached out to a number of individuals for this project- but as soon as I heard back from Kara I knew she was the one I wanted. I have purchased templates in her Market before, and they always had a clean, minimal style which I love. A portrait photographer herself, and mama to 4, I knew she would catch my vision quickly, and I was thrilled with her work and communication every step of the way. Kara designed a logo suite for Fount, as well as structured our brand colors and typography. I was then able to take this branding suite and build the website myself. I could not have done THIS without the amazing platform of ProPhoto. I am now working with Kara in the design process for the first printed publication set to be released in January, and it is going. to. be. beautiful.

Fount would also not be what it is without the creative copy writing work of author Hannah Brencher. She took my vision and scripted it into the most incredibly powerful words that really define who we are and what we are about. I so look forward to sharing Fount with you all, why we chose the name, and what it means to us.

I would also like to thank Lexi Vornberg, editor of Lemonade and Lenses and Belle Lumiere for sharing her wisdom and what it takes to run such successful magazines and submission blogs. I am grateful for leaders in the photography industry such as Lexi, and her willingness to share with me when she saw my heart behind it.
