Last week I had the honor of photographing maternity portraits in downtown Pittsburgh for my beautiful friend! I have known Magalis since bible college- now going on 15 years!! (#old) She’s always had a long list of skills that I have greatly admired. She has the ability to make the entire room roll with laughter, infect you with contagious joy, grow a ministry from her spare bedroom office to what now has an incredible team of full time staff, she’s an encourager, a fantastic mom, a woman who knows how to hustle and get things done, and honestly one of the most generous humans I know.
In college, she and her twin sister mastered the art of sleeping during our daily (way too early) morning chapel- all while expertly making it look like they were deep in prayer. It was then I knew that they would soon become two of my favorite people!
This was my first shoot in Pittsburgh since moving here, so I did quite a bit of location scouting to find the perfect backdrop for her maternity pictures. Magalis has a style that is always on point, so I knew that something downtown would be our better option to fit her best. When I came across the Carnegie Mellon Institute with it’s glorious pillars- I knew we had found the perfect place! We had joked that we needed to hurry up and schedule this shoot before her baby arrived- and turns out we were just in time, as she had her baby boy just a week later! I am already on the edge of my seat to photograph their newborn session.
Here are just a few of my favorite images from our shoot together that were made on medium format black & white film. (my absolute favorite to photograph with!)
(styling, posing, and overall control of the shoot by her twin Adalis Shuttlesworth- wink wink)
