I was so honored to fly to Richmond, Virginia earlier this month to photograph the newest addition to this wonderful family, Miss Everly James Alsop. I first met wedding photographer Katelyn James at the Pursuit Conference in Rome, Georgia. I was a Pursuit Small group leader at the time, and one of my favorite parts about this conference, was how they not only had the Small Group Leaders at the door of registration to greet the attendees, but many of the speakers as well! Katelyn was speaking, and upon our introduction, she asked me if I did the “square portraits” that she had seen on Facebook. In true fan girl moment, I squealed inside, not believing that someone with such a larger business than mine would have any idea who I was. I will never forget that!
Fast forward years down the road, I was so excited to hear when she was expecting her very first baby. Knowing that she had desired to start a family and seeing the pieces of her story come together was so amazing to watch from a distance. But when her husband Michael reached out to me last fall about wanting to surprise Katelyn with a newborn session, I admittedly almost fell off my desk chair with excitement. He decided that it would be a Christmas present- and let me tell you this was one of the hardest secrets to keep!!
They posted a video of Katelyn opening her welcome box from me, and she cried. The good kind of cry, thankfully. Which of course, made me cry watching it! I could not believe that I was given such a privilege to photograph such a special session for this family, and today I get to share a few of my favorites from their in home newborn session!! The majority of images shared here in this post were photographed on medium format film- I even shot a few rolls of color film, in addition to my signature black and white. I am so excited to share them with you!
