I have so been looking forward to sharing with you this beautiful coastal Cape Elizabeth, Maine maternity session for weeks! I travel so often for my clients who live around the country, so whenever I have the opportunity to photograph a local family on the coast of Maine where I live, it is such a wonderful treat! Chelsey and Andrew are expecting their first baby, or rather, I should say, ‘were’, because beautiful baby Anna is already here and I will be sharing their newborn portraits here on the blog soon as well! They drove down the coast from their home in Augusta to have their maternity portraits photographed on the rocky ocean coast- one of my favorite locations- as part of their custom Motherhood Collective.

Chelsey wore a Tiffany Rose dress, that she said was much like her second choice of wedding dress style she had looked at, so it was meaningful to her to be able to wear it to celebrate soon becoming a family of three. I love knowing such thought and detail was included in the planning, since I strongly encourage the mothers I photograph to think about these portraits in the hands of their great grand children. After photographing both their maternity and newborn portrait sessions the past couple months, I have gotten to know Chelsey and Andrew, and I was so grateful to have worked with such kind hearts.

Years ago, I stopped trying to be the photographer for everyone. I fully resolved that I would stop striving to fit everyone’s needs, and instead be the very best photographer for those who were my clients. As we were walking along the cliffs to the next portrait location during this shoot, Chelsey was explaining how they found my work through a family member sharing my Instagram with her, and that she had been looking for the right photographer for this incredibly special season of becoming parents. My eyes welled up with tears, when she looked at me and said, “At first we were hesitant because you were a greater investment than the other photographers we had looked at. But we also knew that it was because you were the very best.”  Cue the thankful tears to be able to do a job I love so much, and the honor of working with such wonderful, wonderful families that make it all worth it.

I photographed their maternity portraits with both digital and medium format black and white film, and today I am sharing with you some of my favorites from their collection!
