Oh my goodness am I excited to share these with you today! I have had the honor of photographing this beautiful mama so many times now, and I have been dreaming about her second maternity session ever since she told me she was expecting. Her first maternity session a couple years ago was one of my very first ones, and her newborn session with her little boy Landon was the photo shoot that became the complete game changer for me. After knowing Lauren’s story and her journey in becoming a mother, I realized what a powerful and beautiful honor it was to photograph such a relationship. My vision was never the same after that session. So when she told me she was expecting earlier this year, I knew that I would want to use medium format film this time!
I own and photograph with a Hasselblad 500c/m for my film photography, and goodness I love that camera. I was pretty lucky for this shoot though, because I was staying with my friend who owns a Contax 645, and she let me borrow it. I looked like a complete fool trying to balance my digital camera, my Hasselblad, AND the Contax- the light meter AND trying to keep all the film straight! We were at the beach and I was trying to avoid a camera bag full of sand. BUT, when I got the film scans back, (I use Richard Photo Lab) I knew it was worth it. For black and white film I have been loving Ilford 3200. It’s known for it’s grain, but I just think it has such a romantic look to it. A look that just can’t be exactly replicated by digital actions.
Lauren wore a Tiffany Rose dress, and her makeup was professionally done by Alisa of Simply Gorgeous By Erin. Her gorgeous locks were styled by Lauren herself. Those fashion bloggers… Always looking so fabulous.
Here are a few of my favorite black and white film images from her Madison, Connecticut Maternity Session. I’ll be sharing more images throughout different upcoming posts, so stay tuned.
