Motherhood is an art form unto it’s own. There’s truly nothing like it.
I photographed this portrait of Spring and her little one last night as she stood on the edge of the ocean in Cape Elizabeth, Maine- each wave crashing in closer and surrounding our bare feet with the salty, cool Atlantic water. It was a dream.
I have had the honor of photographing Spring so many times, and each never disappoints. From her maternity portraits on this exact coastline, to when her little girl was just weeks old in her New Hampshire home, to celebrating six months of motherhood as a family, Spring’s head shots for her own photography business, and soon to come a family portrait session celebrating her little one turning a whole year old. So when I needed a mother and child model for my one on one workshop this past weekend, when she volunteered I knew she would be the perfect fit.
I spent two days with Anne Marie Photography, who photographs families in Connecticut. What a GEM. She is working on a new website, but you can follow her on Instagram to see where this workshop takes her. We spent two days talking about all things business and branding. From her new website, to her blogging, pricing and packages, albums and prints, the very vision behind her work that will give her a completely unique niche and brand, her image editing, social media, work & life balance, and SO much more. Although my two hour mentoring sessions do cover a lot in a short amount of time, these two days left no stone uncovered, and we were able to talk in DETAIL about each area, giving her a solid plan of action. She was hungry to learn, and I hope I always stay the same way myself!
What was completely brand new to any mentoring I have ever done, was adding an instructional portrait shoot. Complete with the always amazing hair and makeup work of Stacia Makeup Artistry here in Portland, we met Spring and her daughter on the coast of Cape Elizabeth, and I walked Anne through a portrait session with me. I explained the light that I look for in a location, natural posing that doesn’t feel stiff or inauthentic, camera settings, and anything else I could think of! Anne got to photograph alongside me, getting feedback along the way, and was able to leave with gorgeous (believe me, I had sneak peaks!) images for her portfolio.
It was such a beautiful shoot, as we both photographed family through our own lens and vision. I can’t wait to share more! What do you think? Should this portrait be added to my new website that I am working on? 🙂
