About a year ago, this portrait was taken and it absolutely wrecked me. This beautiful mama and dear friend of mine had prayed for this baby for so very long. I had the honor of photographing her and her hubby before they were expecting, and for her maternity portraits as well. So when it came time to photograph this session- I was over the moon excited.

The portrait wrecked me. Because it went so much deeper than I had ever gone before with a client. It was raw. It was real. It moved me to my core and spiraled this passion for photographing motherhood differently. It inspired me to move beyond the expected and redefine how a mother should ever be photographed with her child. This was the image that did it for me.

Tomorrow evening we photograph little Landon’s 12 month session. I can’t believe this little guy is one already. Time really does go by so quickly. But I know Lauren will have this image to look back on… To remember how tiny he was in her arms, and how new motherhood felt.

I don’t believe that photographs really can be seen in true value until years to come. We cherish them now. We love them now. But they change us later.
