I met Chris & Ashley Poisella a couple years ago at my very first professional photographer’s meet up here in Connecticut. They have been such incredible cheerleaders for me and my business since the moment we met. As specialized wedding photographers, they refer so many of their maternity and newborn portrait requests my way- which has created amazing opportunities for me to work with wonderful clients that I may not have had the chance to otherwise. So it was SUCH an honor to gift their maternity portraits  as my huge thank you for all they have done for me!

This past August we did a Connection Portrait session on the beach, and little did I know at that the time, that they were newly expecting and hadn’t told a single person yet! Ashley called to tell me shortly after publicly announcing their pregnancy that that their portrait collection was that much more special to them now, as it marked the beginning of a new season for them as a couple. {Insert my heart exploding here}

This maternity session quickly became one of my favorites that I have ever photographed. Not only were they completely up for anything- (including the throwing of material up around their living room rafters!) but it became a session that deeply reminded me of what matters most, and my core as a photographer. These are portraits that went way beyond the belly- and truly captured this new place for them- a new place of family, and how irreplaceable these emotions were.

There was a time during the session that came so unexpectedly, and so quiet that the moment was almost tangible, the kind of moment that you stop and say to yourself, “This is it. This is the entire session right here. This is the portrait.” Where lips quivered and tears rolled down cheeks in this spirit of gratefulness that yes, it is their turn.
